Faulty Cat?
When changing a catalyst it is important to remember that something caused the original catalyst to fail. To ensure the long life of the replacement catalyst we have compiled the following guidelines:

DO: Find out what caused the original catalyst to fail and correct the fault BEFORE fitting the replacement catalyst.
DO: Check that the lambda sensor is in good condition and operating correctly. Replace the sensor if necessary.
DO: Ensure all joints have a fully gas tight seal.
DO: Use new fittings when fitting the replacement catalyst.
DO: Have the vehicle checked and serviced regularly to the manufacturers specifications.
DO: Use only the correct fuel for the vehicle.
DO: Check the vehicles tuning and ignition system regularly.

DON'T: Fit a new cat to a vehicle with HC levels exceeding 60 ppm.
DON'T: Assume that replacing the catalyst will cure all emission faults on the vehicle.
DON'T: Use exhaust paste in front of the catalyst.
DON'T: Use excessive force when fitting the catalyst.
DON'T: Subject the catalyst to any kind of impact forces, ie. dropping on the floor or hitting with a hammer!
DON'T: Attempt to push or bump start the vehicle.
DON'T: Drive through deep water (fords etc.).
DON'T: Use any fuel additives that are not compatible with catalysts.
